"FROM THE OLD HOME PLACE "
How far back do your memories
go, and what do they consist of? Are your memories of things that cause
you to have that “warm fuzzy feeling of a job well
done”, or are they things that you would really prefer to
forget?
Today I was looking at a
folder of stories from our early days here in Belo Horizonte, and
I’ll admit that they brought on that “warm fuzzy
feeling”. There was the story about Jessica, Juliano and
Silvanás little girl at age four – now she’s 16
and is our church musician for most services – when our
youngest, Vera Lucia was telling the story of
“Barney’s Barrel” as they all sat on a
rug on the cold winter-time floor in a class room with no heat. They
were all feeling the cold, and feeling sympathy for Barney as he
entered the door of the rescue mission, and heard the story of the
“Wordless Book” for the first time. Then and there
he opened his heart to Jesus.
At this point, Jessica
interrupted and said, “I know that story, and what Barney
did. I want to do that too. I want to receive Jesus into my
heart.”
I also read and remembered the
day when Maria do Carmo, a school principal, stopped the van and asked
permission to go to our Sunday School to be allowed to observe our
teaching methods. Her two daughters had been attending, and had shown a
remarkable retention level of the Bible lessons they were taught. Since
then, these two girls, their mother, and one brother have accepted
Christ.
How far back do your memories
go, and what do they consist of? You will only be able to HAVE these
memories if you make them while you can. Otherwise, they will only be
imaginations of “what might have been...”
